THE
BOTTOM LINE
The bottom line is that
if you and your spouse cannot agree on one or more issues the Judge
will decide for you. One party can end up satisfied (once in a while
both) or both can end up miserable and wishing they had compromised
with each other. The Judge is going to tell you what the story will
be with the division of property and debts, alimony, child support,
custody, visitation, and attorney's fees and costs etc. The Judge can enforce
the Court's Order by holding someone in contempt and jailing them if necessary.
And the Judge can order that alimony and child support come directly out
of a party's paycheck through an Income Deduction Order. If you are
unsatisfied with a Judge's decision you can of course appeal. The
procedure is both costly and time consuming. Hopefully, no matter
what the Judge's ruling is, both sides can move ahead with their lives
and have some degree of respect for the other, especially if children
